Texoma Thunder VBC is a competitive youth volleyball club serving athletes and families across the Sherman / Denison / Texoma area.
Texoma Thunder VBC is a program of AMBienT Sports, a nonprofit organization focused on structured youth athletic development, professional standards, and long-term program stability.
What makes Texoma Thunder VBC different?
Texoma Thunder VBC is culture-first and athlete-development-first.
We care about skill growth, but we also care about coachability, accountability, resilience, communication, discipline, respect, and how athletes respond when things get difficult.
Wins matter, but they are not the only measure of success.
Does Texoma Thunder VBC only care about top-level athletes?
No.
Texoma Thunder VBC is built around development. Athletes are expected to work hard, listen, grow, compete, and buy into the culture.
Raw ability matters, but attitude, effort, coachability, and long-term growth matter too.
Training, Programs & Sessions
What are Programs & Sessions?
Programs & Sessions are group training opportunities offered by Texoma Thunder VBC throughout the year.
These may include seasonal training series, camps, clinics, school tryout preparation, pathway sessions, and other athlete development opportunities.
Availability depends on season timing, gym access, coach availability, and current club priorities.
Is STORM SEASON only for Texoma Thunder athletes?
No.
STORM SEASON is school tryout preparation and is open to athletes who want focused training before school volleyball tryouts.
It is not a club tryout and does not guarantee placement on a Texoma Thunder VBC team.
Where do I find current programs?
Current training opportunities are posted on the Programs & Sessions page when they are available.
Lessons
Does Texoma Thunder VBC offer lessons?
Yes, when coach availability and gym access allow.
Texoma Thunder VBC may offer private, small-group, or coach-specific lesson opportunities. Lesson availability can vary by season, facility access, coach schedule, and club workload.
Why is the lesson page called Lesson Request Information?
Lessons are not a simple instant sign-up.
Families should review the lesson information first so they understand availability, scheduling, expectations, deposits, coach assignment, and the level of commitment involved.
Are lessons guaranteed?
No.
Submitting lesson interest does not guarantee a lesson time. Lessons depend on available court space, coach availability, athlete needs, and scheduling fit.
THUNDERDOME / FORGED Pathway
The questions below explain the THUNDERDOME / FORGED pathway model used by Texoma Thunder VBC for team formation and athlete evaluation.
Some dates or program names may change year to year, but the core philosophy remains the same: athletes should be observed over time, challenged through training, and evaluated through readiness instead of a single one-day tryout.
What is THUNDERDOME?
THUNDERDOME is a seasonal training progression made up of training phases, evaluations, and pathway steps designed to prepare athletes for club volleyball. It is not a single event, but a structured path that builds skills, confidence, and readiness over time.
Does my child have to participate in every phase?
No. Each phase stands on its own.
That said, athletes who participate consistently are better prepared for later phases, especially FORGED. The more exposure an athlete has to the training environment, the more comfortable and confident they will be.
Why not traditional tryouts?
Texoma Thunder VBC believes athletes are better evaluated over time than in one short session.
The THUNDERDOME / FORGED pathway allows coaches to observe readiness, response to coaching, consistency, resilience, and team fit in a more complete way.
What are Rumbles?
Rumbles are pathway training groups built around ability level rather than age.
This helps athletes get more appropriate reps, build confidence, and train with players working at a similar level.
What are Strikes?
Strikes are pathway training groups built around age rather than ability.
Age-based Strikes help coaches teach systems, prepare athletes for how teams function in competition, and keep expectations aligned with the age division.
Why group by ability instead of age?
Ability-based training allows athletes to:
- Get more appropriate reps
- Avoid being rushed or held back
- Train with players working at a similar level
This is especially important for development and confidence.
Why switch to age-based groups later?
Age-based Strikes allow us to:
- Teach offensive and defensive systems
- Prepare athletes for how teams function in competition
- Ensure age-appropriate expectations and pacing
Both groupings serve a purpose.
What is Lightning Camp?
Lightning Camp is an example of an intensive pathway training phase used in some club cycles.
When offered, it is designed to focus on club systems, repetition under fatigue, and speed of learning in a more demanding training environment.
What is THUNDERDOME: Survivors?
THUNDERDOME: Survivors is an example of an optional pathway training series used in some seasons for skill maintenance, detail work, and competitive resilience.
Specific dates, weekly structures, and added training benefits can change from year to year.
Its purpose is to build endurance and commitment, not elimination.
What is FORGED?
FORGED is the culmination of the THUNDERDOME pathway and the final team placement process.
It is used for athletes who are moving into the final commitment and team formation step for that season.
What does FORGED BEFORE TEAMS mean?
FORGED BEFORE TEAMS means athletes move through the final placement and commitment step before full team reveal details are finalized publicly.
The goal is to make sure readiness, commitment, and fit are established before the full team structure is presented.
Who is invited to FORGED?
Invitations are based on:
- Readiness for club volleyball
- Training performance
- Competitive response
- Positional needs and balance
Not every athlete will be invited.
What happens during FORGED?
Athletes are evaluated in age-based groups, reviewed for fit and readiness, and moved through the final placement process for that season.
The process determines where an athlete fits, not whether that athlete matters.
What happens after final placement is completed?
After final placement is completed, families receive team reveal, coach, teammate, contract, and season commitment information through the club process for that year.
The exact timing and format can change from season to season, but the purpose is the same: to move families from evaluation into clear team commitment.
Are final FORGED dates mandatory?
When Texoma Thunder VBC designates final FORGED dates as required for that season, attendance matters.
Families should read that season’s official communication carefully so they understand which steps are mandatory and what commitment is expected.
What if my child is nervous about the process?
That is normal.
THUNDERDOME is designed to:
- Remove surprises
- Provide familiarity before evaluation
- Prepare athletes mentally and physically
By the time FORGED arrives, athletes should feel prepared, not overwhelmed.
Is THUNDERDOME about pressure?
THUNDERDOME is about preparation.
Pressure exists in competition. The goal is to introduce it gradually, with support, so athletes are ready when it matters.
Season, Teams & Placement
How are teams formed?
Teams are formed through a combination of athlete readiness, positional needs, coach evaluation, age division, team fit, and demonstrated commitment to the Texoma Thunder VBC culture.
Placement is not based on one moment, one drill, or one day.
Does attending a program guarantee a team spot?
No.
Training participation helps coaches evaluate athletes and gives athletes a chance to grow, but participation in a program or session does not automatically guarantee team placement unless Texoma Thunder VBC specifically communicates that status to the family.
What does it mean if an athlete is invited to FORGED?
An invitation to FORGED means the athlete is moving into the final team placement and commitment process for that season.
Athletes attending FORGED are considered part of the club process, and final team placement is completed through that step.
